What quality can I expect with Noomea jewelry?
The vast majority of Noomea jewellery is made of sterling 925 silver or stainless steel 304 or 316L. You’ll find the details for each product in its description.
These three materials are among the most resistant to oxidation, making them ideal components for your jewelry to last and to follow you everywhere. However, if your silver jewel tarnishes (blackens) over time it is normal as it oxidizes too. Similarly, stainless steel can mark under very specific conditions (for more information, refer to the FAQ). You’ll find cleaning tips for your jewelry in this FAQ.
Also note that these materials are silver in color, so if you buy gold or Rose Gold color jewelry, it’s a layer plated on the jewelry. This layer is quite resistant but can slim down and eventually fade over time (e.g. if you shower with it every day).
And of course, if you mistreat them, they might break so take good care of them! 😊
How do I clean my silver jewelry?
There are many techniques to polish your jewelry:
Clean it with toothpaste
Place the toothpaste on your toothbrush, previously moistened with warm water, and rub gently so as not to damage your silver jewellery. Then wash your jewel in water and above all, don’t forget to dry it with a chamois skin or a microfiber cloth!
Clean it with baking soda
Stir a teaspoon of bicarbonate into warm water and mix until it hardens. Afterwards, gently brush your jewel with the mixture and remember to wash and dry it.
Clean it with lemon juice
Lightly rub your silver jewelry with a soft cloth and lemon juice to remove the stains. Rinse with water and wipe.
Clean it with Coca-Cola
Soak your jewel in a glass of Coca-Cola the equivalent of an overnight night, rinse it with water and dry it.
Clean it with white vinegar
Immerse your jewel in a glass filled with white vinegar for 2 hours. Rinse it and wipe it off.
Clean it with specific products
Go to a store and look for a product with a Argentil formula. This formula effectively cleans money and silverware. Use the product by rubbing your jewelry with your toothbrush, rinse and wipe.
WARNING you should never use bleach, as it blackens silver.
What is stainless steel?
This metal is a very good alternative to silver and gold plated. Resistant and durable it does not corrode and is not sensitive to scratches. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, carbon, nickel and chromium needed to ensure the formation of a self-regenerating surface layer that makes it stainless. Are you allergic to nickel? Thankfully, the nickel particles are trapped in the alloy, so the nickel does not release, making stainless steel an anti-allergenic metal that does not irritate the skin.
What is the difference between 304 and 316L stainless steel?
STAINLESS STEEL 304
It is the most common form of stainless steel, due to its high resistance to corrosion. It contains between 16 and 24% chromium and up to 35% nickel.
STAINLESS STEEL 316 L
The second most common form of stainless steel is also called marine stainless steel or surgical steel, it is similar to stainless steel 304 with the essential difference that it contains 2 to 3% molybdenum (transitional metal). This addition to the stainless steel alloy makes the steel even more corrosion resistant, harder and resistant to chlorinated, iodine and polluted atmospheres.
In short, if you want to swim in the pool or at the sea with your jewelry, prefer 316 L stainless steel.
How do I maintain stainless steel?
There are several tips for maintaining stainless steel. For example, you can clean your jewel with a cloth soaked in lemon oil, mix hot water with baking soda or clean it with dishwashing liquid by rinsing it well several times.
